Type 2 Diabetes – Three Low-Carb Great Tasting Snack Ideas for Diabetics


With a little know-how, you can transform some of your favorite family recipes into delicious, diabetes-fighting dishes. Eating to prevent Type 2 diabetes, or to control your blood sugar levels need not mean deprivation.

As you cut back on many of the unhealthy carbohydrates, you may find it becomes harder and harder to eat foods, especially snacks you enjoy. While meals are not too terribly challenging, snacks and sweets can be a whole other story. It seems every dessert or sweet you crave is high in carbs.

To help make things easier for you, let's look at a few low-carb ideas that do not sacrifice taste …

1. Dressed Up Celery Sticks. These celery sticks take all of three minutes to make and will fuel you for hours. Smear two tablespoons of peanut butter into a few celery sticks and then sprinkle the celery sticks with a small amount of dried unsweetened coconut.

Depending on how low-carb you want to make this one, you can also add a few dried cranberries or raisins as well.

2. Quick And Simple Cheesecake Cups. Cheesecake is a big favorite for many but yet, is also one that typically packs in too many calories to be a part of an everyday diabetic eating plan. Until now.

Simply mix three tablespoons of fat-free cream cheese with ½ cup of low-fat, plain Greek yogurt. Mix this all together, adding some Stevia if desired and then top with some fresh raspberries.

One of these cheesecake cups gives you a snack under 200 calories.

3. Cream Filled Crepes. Finally, if you want to go gourmet, consider cream filled crepes. You can prepare your own whipped cream using pure, full-fat coconut milk. Place a can of coconut milk in the fridge overnight. The next day, drain out the liquid and then beat the remaining substance until whipped cream begins to form.

Prepare your crepes by mixing one scoop of protein powder with half a cup of egg whites. Pour this into a hot skillet and cook like you would a regular pancake. Once finished, top with your whipped cream and drizzle with a little sugar-free maple syrup. It will taste so good you will feel like you are eating a traditional dessert instead of a lighter one.

So do not get hung up on low-carb snacks any longer. With just a bit of creativity, you can certainly find delicious options allowing you to keep calories, fat, and carbohydrates to a minimum without sacrificing taste.
